Barton Health Continues Urological Care, Welcomes Expert to Lake Tahoe Community

(South Lake Tahoe, Calif.) – Barton Health is pleased to welcome Miriam Locke, MD, board-certified urologist to Barton Urology. A critical function of the body, urologists address urinary and reproductive health in both men and women, treating disorders like urinary incontinence, kidney stones, and prostate cancer, a leading cancer in American men. Dr. Locke will offer comprehensive, individualized treatment for patients in the Lake Tahoe area.

“Urological health is deeply associated with everyday well-being, confidence, and comfort. It can also be a lifesaving measure, as conditions such as prostate cancer can be addressed more effectively when detected early,” said Barton Health CEO & President, Dr. Clint Purvance. “We are proud to welcome Dr. Locke who will advance our ability to provide urological services to regional residents.”

Urology health relates to the urogenital system, which is responsible for producing, storing and discharging urine (kidneys, bladder, urethra) and the parts of the body involved in sexual function (prostate, penis, and testicles).

"Problems in urinary function can be painful, inconvenient and have a serious impact on quality of life,” said Dr. Locke. “I look forward to helping patients navigate these issues that can be difficult to discuss and endure."

Dr. Locke attended medical school at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky and completed her residency at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. She is a published urologist with awards in the field including Best In-Service Score at Mount Sinai Urology Residency, and has earned the Dr. E. Owsley Grant Award for Academic Excellence in Urology.

Dr. Locke will host a free Wellness Webinar, “Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections,” on Thursday, June 8 at 5 p.m. She will discuss urinary tract infections, including the causes, symptoms, risks, and treatment options that are available. Register in advance, or view previously recorded webinars at BartonHealth.org/Lecture.
