Allied Health & Student Programs

For those interested in healthcare careers, Barton Health proudly offers several programs and educational opportunities.

Certified Nursing Assistant Program

Students are prepared to perform a variety of clinical duties in various skilled nursing facility environments in the two-month Certified Nursing Assistant Program.

Completion of the program provides eligibility to take the nursing assistant certifying examination approved by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

Medical Assistant Program

Students learn and experience hands-on practicum in both administrative and clinical areas with our expedited Medical Assistant Program.

The program meets the training requirements for testing to become a Nationally-Certified Medical Assistant.

Health Care Career Observership

Students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare receive an introduction to a wide array for medical careers by shadowing multiple clinical departments.

As a partnership between Barton Health and Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC), students complete the observership at Barton Health and enroll in LTCC to complete the accompanying coursework.

Open to high school and college students, aged 16 or older. College credit is offered upon completion.

Junior Volunteer Program at Barton Memorial Hospital

Receive LTCC course credits, volunteer hours, and experience in a healthcare setting with the Barton Junior Volunteer Program.

Help patients feel better through non-clinical tasks such as:

  • Greeting patients coming into the hospital
  • Escorting patients to and from departments
  • Providing warm blankets
  • Sitting with residents and participating in resident activities
  • Providing patients “Comfort Cart” items such as teddybears, pen and paper, reading glasses, etc.
  • And other non-clinical activities

Open to high school and college students, aged 16 or older, or those currently enrolled in LTCC’s Professional Development
Program and completes the course requirements for that program. Must have reliable and consistent transportation. Must be willing and able to volunteer at least 20 hours over the course of the twelve week period.

We are proud to support Lake Tahoe Community College students in their Allied Health Programs, such as Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, and Physical Therapy Aide.

Barton is proud to support local high school students interested in a medical career. Any hospital department can act as a STHS Senior Project site for a high school senior with a healthcare-related project.
