Help Paying Your Bill
Financial Assistance Program
We want everyone in our community to be healthy. Ensuring this means helping those most in need of health care coverage with Medi-Cal, medical financial assistance, charitable health coverage and other forms of subsidized care and coverage.
Subsidized Health Care & Counseling
We understand that medical bills can be confusing and burdensome and applying for financial assistance can be daunting. We may be able to help patients with all or part of their responsibility for medical services. We have several options to support patients through the process of providing financial assistance based on household income.
- No uninsured patient, regardless of financial status, will receive a full bill for incurred medical expenses. We offer a discount across the board to uninsured regardless of income. This is comparable to the negotiated discount we provide to private insurance companies.
- We also provide income-based charity care and other forms of financial assistance, including discounts to qualified patients. We use a sliding fee schedule program based on family size and income to help identify patients eligible for financial assistance that covers those on a reduced income as well as self-paying patients who do not have insurance.
Our policies provide:
- Full charity care to uninsured patients earning 100 percent or less of the Federal Poverty Income Guideline (FPIG). Patients who qualify (or their guarantor) will have no financial obligation to pay for eligible services at Barton Health.
- A 30-75 percent discount on all eligible services to uninsured and under-insured patients based on up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Income Guideline.
- Payment plans with no interest charges to all patients.
Barton’s financial counselors can help you identify coverage options, apply for financial assistance if eligible or set up an affordable payment plan for current medical costs. Bilingual counselors are also available.

Community Partnerships
Barton Health also maintains a robust community benefit program that invests in community safety net programs to help care for the uninsured and underserved. In 2023 Barton Health provided $6 million in free and discounted hospital services and charity to eligible low-income, uninsured or underinsured patients.
