Language & Interpreter Services

Understanding and communicating with your health care team is essential and you are entitled to language assistance.

If you don't speak English, or speak English as your second language, or if you are Deaf or have limited hearing abilities, our Language Access Services (LAS) team is available at any medical appointment or within the hospital. Please ask our staff for an interpreter any time.

Medical Interpretation

Barton Health is committed to providing medical interpretation to ensure you are able to understand your medical conditions, and treatment options.

Staffed medical interpreters are available for appointments, procedures, hospital visits, and follow-up calls. When possible, let your care team know about your preference for a medical interpreter when scheduling your appointment.

When care providers do not have access to an in-person interpreter, Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) allows patients to securely access an American Sign Language interpreter or spoken language interpreter at the push of a button. With more than 170 languages, clear medical communication is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Language Access Services Shines

Language Access Services Video ThumbnailLiving in a diverse community that attracts visitors from all over the world, Barton often receives patients that need interpretation or assistance in a different language. In one interaction, a young, Deaf patient needed an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter, while his mother only spoke Spanish. Barton's LAS team provided interpreters for both the patient and his mother, simultaneously.
