Barton Auxiliary

Support community health with the Barton Auxiliary — volunteers looking to stay active during retirement or junior volunteers wanting to explore careers in healthcare gain valuable new skills and a sense of accomplishment through a variety of programs and fundraising initiatives.

Areas for Volunteering

  • Blood Drives – assist with South Lake Tahoe blood drives.
  • Cheese Balls – make the Auxiliary's famous cheese balls, a tradition since 1989.
  • Christmas Cheer All Year – facilitate emergency food distribution for community members experiencing food insecurity.
  • Comfort Cart – visit patients and provide them with comforting items, company, and conversation.
  • Emergency Department – greet and assist patient's families.
  • Footprints to the Future – fulfill orders and place Barton Memorial Hospital baby's footprints on the recognition wall.
  • Front Desk Hospital Services – greet and direct visitors, deliver flowers and cards, and assist with patient discharge.
  • Skilled Nursing Facility – visit with or read to residents, help in the activities room, take residents for a walk, play cards and games, and more.
  • Ways & Means – help with Auxiliary fundraising events.
  • Other Areas As Needed – assist with various projects, such as stuffing mailers and invitations, greet patients in other departments, and volunteer for events.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone interested and willing to conform to the Bylaws and Policies of the Auxiliary that have been approved by the Barton Health Board of Directors. All memberships may be renewed annually upon payment of dues. Types of membership include:

  • General Member – Dues are $15 per year – Members regularly participate in active service programs of the Auxiliary and serve a minimum of 100 hours yearly.
  • Part-time Member – Dues are $15 per year – Members, serving 50 or more hours yearly.
  • Associate Member – Dues are $50 per year – Associate members are interested in the purpose of the Auxiliary and may participate in all events and services of the Auxiliary, but are not required to serve a specific number of hours.
  • Life Member – $500 one-time payment – Specific criteria must be met. Contact the president if you have questions regarding life membership.
  • Student/ Junior Volunteer – No dues – Ages 16-18.

How to Become an Auxiliary Member

To complete an application, please register for an account and provide the needed information.

Please allow up to 60 days to complete screening, which includes a background check and verification of immunizations. Once completed you will attend a new volunteer orientation and pay membership dues.

Footprints to the Future

Through the Barton Auxiliary, you can have your little one's footprints to remember forever! Have your newborn's footprints engraved as a keepsake or for display on the recognition wall at Barton Memorial Hospital.

Tree of Life

The Tree of Life serves as a permanent reminder of those we have loved and lost. More than a memorial, the Tree of Life is also a program supporting the residents and visitors who need medical services. Each leaf represents a life lost and a gift to our Barton Auxiliary, unless otherwise specified.
